"Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances” is a mouthful. If you can’t even spell it, it probably shouldn’t be in your gear. These PFAS are “forever chemicals,” engineered to repel water, oil, and stains, which is why they’ve been used in everything from non-stick pans to outdoor gear.
As we have learned, these chemicals never go away. Once in the environment, PFAS stick around, building up in wildlife, water, and our bodies, posing long-term health risks.
In 2008, Arlene Blum and the Green Science Policy Institute began their journey to stop toxic chemicals from contaminating everyday products. Back then, the harms of PFAS were largely unknown. Fast forward to today, and we know the risks and see the need for action.
