Chrome: Can you tell us about your journey as an artist? What inspired you to pursue a career in art?
Lucas Beaufort: As an artist all I want is to live the life! I’ve always been driven by this philosophy. As an artist I want to wake up in a different place every day, I want to experience something special every day and that drives all my creative output.
Chrome: Your artwork often combines elements of painting and photography. How did you develop this unique style and what draws you to blending mediums?
Lucas Beaufort: I grew up with skateboard magazines. I was obsessed with print magazines, so I was spending all my money (as a young teenager) on these magazines. One day, I took a Vice magazine and painted on the cover. I emailed Vice and they asked me If I wanted a subscription, just 4 months later I was receiving around 20 skateboard magazines every month at home. The best idea I could have come up with as I was so into magazines!
Chrome: Your artwork often incorporates vibrant colors and surreal elements. What role does imagination play in your creative process?
Lucas Beaufort: I used to say that the act of painting is an excuse to travel and meet new people. My inspiration and imagination is coming from my experiences around the world. My creative process is deeply related to my lifestyle.
Chrome: Your work is known for its sense of humor and playfulness. How important is it for you to bring joy and lightheartedness to your audience, and what impact do you hope your art has on viewers?
Lucas Beaufort: The more I live, the more I understand the reason why I’m doing this. I paint because I want to create a bridge between people. I want to bring people together; that’s my main goal.
Chrome: Can you share some insights into your creative process? How do you approach a new project or idea, and what steps do you take to bring it to life?
Lucas Beaufort: Everything starts with a dream. I dream everyday and I try to make it a reality. I have new ideas every single day and then I just do anything to make it happen. I can’t stop myself; it becomes an obsession. Once I touch my dream, I start thinking of the next project, it’s a never-ending story.
Chrome: In the age of social media and digital art, you maintain a strong focus on physical artwork and exhibitions. What draws you to the traditional medium, and how do you see it evolving in the future?
Lucas Beaufort: I need physical things, it’s my drug, I need to live for things “real”. It doesn’t mean that I ignore digital things, it’s just not my cup of tea. I see my future close to what I’m currently doing, I want to travel and try new things, eat new things, smell new things. Experience everything.
Chrome: As an artist who has achieved recognition on a global scale, what advice would you give to aspiring artists who are just starting their artistic journeys?
Lucas Beaufort: Stick to what you love and work as hard as possible. Hard work always pays off!
Chrome: Throughout your career, you've had the opportunity to exhibit your work in numerous countries. How have these experiences influenced your artistic perspective and growth?
Lucas Beaufort: As I’ve mentioned throughout this conversation, I live everyday as if it’s the last day of my life. When you think like this, you don’t take things for granted and you enjoy as much as you can, even the worst.
Chrome: Can you share some insights into your creative inspirations? What influences and motivates you?
Lucas Beaufort: I love to think about the future. It’s weird to say but I’m very into what’s coming next. It keeps me motivated and excited!
Chrome: You seem to be a jack of all trades when it comes to movement whether it be biking, skateboarding, snowboarding, etc. Can you tell us how movement inspires and fosters your creativity?
Lucas Beaufort: I’m inspired by the world, it’s the most beautiful playground ever. I’m so curious and say yes to what life has to offer.
Chrome: Collaboration seems to be a recurring theme in your work as you’ve partnered with various artists and brands. How do these collaborations influence your artistic process?
Lucas Beaufort: It’s super important and it shows how much I love to partner and collaborate with others. It allows me to explore further and dive further into unknown worlds and push my creativity.
Chrome: Can you tell us more about your experience with Chrome? What drew you to the brand?
Lucas Beaufort: I got a message from the Chrome team, and it felt like a fortunate coincidence as I always liked the brand. We started to discuss the idea of collaborating and it came together. All I want when I collaborate with a brand is to have total freedom to create whatever I want. That’s what happened with Chrome.
Chrome: Do you have any upcoming projects or exhibitions that you're excited about? Can you give us a sneak peek into what you're currently working on?
Lucas Beaufort: Oh dear, I have so much on my plate! Currently, I’m headed to Montreal tomorrow to work on several creative projects then back to Europe in September to celebrate and support local skate shops through various art shows. After that, I’m headed to India to embark on some new creative projects. I’m really all about having fun and trying to embrace that through travel and adventure.
