How can you put it in so few words. Chrome is the best bags on the market. The ergonomics of the bags just make sense. I prefer the messenger bag because that just makes sense for biking, especially being engaged and alert on a fixie. The comfortability of the strap and the ease of access when locking up and grabbing items just makes sense. I had a bag back in 2008 and if I still had it, I'm sure it would be a trooper. I like that over the years they have functionally redesigned aspects of the bag. Make it make sense?!? Chrome has been doing that for few decades

I've held off buying a new Chrome Citizen ever since production moved out of the USA. But after seeing the 2025 redesign, I decided to give it a chance. The integrated laptop sleeve is a great addition, and there are several thoughtful updates that make the bag more practical.

My biggest disappointment is the iconic seatbelt buckle. It's the soul of the bag. It's the part you touch every time you use it, like the steering wheel in a car, and that tactile feel is one of the main reasons people buy a Chrome messenger in the first place. The buckle on this new bag is dramatically lighter and cheaper than the original. It no longer has that overbuilt, confidence inspiring industrial feel, and I could bend or break it with my hands if I wanted to.

The bag is still well designed, but the subtle changes throughout make it feel less bombproof than the older Citizens. I still like the bag and will keep it, but I wish Chrome had preserved the hardware and build quality that made these bags legendary. Unfortunately, it feels like exactly what you'd expect after a brand is acquired and production moves overseas. I'd happily pay more for better.
